The department of orthopaedic surgery at University Hospital is comprised of several subspecialties.

Orthopaedic Trauma

The department of Orthopaedic Trauma offers treatment for the orthopaedic patient with multiple trauma injuries at our Regional Level 1 Trauma Center, serving Southwestern Ohio, Southeastern Indiana, and Northern Kentucky. Our all-inclusive orthopaedic trauma program includes hand, spine and musculoskeletal specialties. This “all-inclusive” program not only has the ability to scientifically evaluate current care strategies, but to change standards of practice and elevate the standard of orthopaedic trauma care at the national level.

Hand Surgery

The Hand Surgery subspecialty department provides care for individuals with minor fingertip injuries to those with complex industrial trauma. Arthroscopic surgery in addition to hip, knee and other joint replacement surgeries are the major focus of the department of Joint Replacement and Reconstruction. The department of Spine Surgery addresses trauma related and non-trauma related spine disorders by using operative techniques including microscopic procedures and the latest techniques in spine surgery.
The department of Sports Medicine has received local and national recognition for its contributions to the field of sports medicine orthopaedics.

Sports Medicine

The department of Sports Medicine provides care for several local teams. These include area high schools, University of Cincinnati athletes, and professional teams including Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Marshals. Sports Medicine at University Hospital means many things. It includes patient care using the most advanced orthopedic and physical therapy routines, research and education, intercollegiate and interscholastic sports coverage, and community service.
