Caring for the “whole” patient.

Cancer patients have more needs besides the treatment of their cancer. As they go through chemotherapy, radiation therapy or surgery, they may have special nutrition, rehabilitation or other medical needs. Therefore, we provide experts in these services who can assist patients in their treatment and rehabilitation processes.

Cancer Symptom Management Clinic top of page

In 2005, the UC Barrett Cancer Center at University Hospital created a new Symptom Management Clinic, an interdisciplinary clinic created to help patients manage their cancer-related symptoms. The clinic is based on a collaborative team effort consisting of oncologists, registered nurses, a pain specialist, pharmacist, dietician and social worker. We can help to ease the following cancer-related symptoms:

  • Constipation/Diarrhea
  • Depressive Mood
  • Dietary Issues
  • Fatigue
  • Hot Flashes
  • Nausea/Vomiting
  • Pain
  • Treatment-related Anemia

A physician’s order is required. Talk with your oncologist about your symptoms and ask for a referral to the Symptom Management Clinic at the Barrett Cancer Center or call 513-584-1937 for more information.

The Symptom Management Clinic is located on the 2nd floor of the Barrett Cancer Center. Appointments are available Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. – noon.

In some cases, cancer patients need physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology services. The UC Barrett Cancer Center at University Hospital is able to provide these services to patients with a physician referral.

The social work programs are an essential feature to care for our cancer patients. Social services include psychological assessment and treatment of patients who may have emotional, social or economic issues related to cancer. Social workers can also help patients and family members access community services, such as home health care, nursing homes and counseling.
